A community made the roster only after clearing two checks. Each place first needed an entry in our coverage file, and then an independent distance calculation from the Centerport ZIP code had to land it within about fifteen miles.
A caveat belongs at the top. The coverage file has no row for Centerport's own ZIP code, so none is listed for Centerport here. Northport and Huntington carry the closest confirmed codes, about two and a half miles away.
Villages, hamlets and census places.
Long Island is carved into towns, and within those towns are incorporated villages and unincorporated hamlets. The villages here are Northport, Bayville, Farmingdale, Old Westbury, Sea Cliff, Islandia, Lindenhurst and Amityville. Almost every other entry is a hamlet, with no municipal government of its own, a fact that has no bearing on how we trap rodents or seal a home.
Suffolk County supplies the North Shore and south-shore towns, while Nassau County covers the Oyster Bay side and the central plain. Your mailing address might name a village though your lot lies in a hamlet, so we go by ZIP code.
Places we left out.
A handful of nearby communities fell outside our range. The second Hicksville ZIP code sits just beyond fifteen miles, and Port Washington, Uniondale, Great Neck, Centereach, East Meadow, Roslyn and Carle Place also lie outside the circle. If your address straddles a boundary, call and ask.
